Is there a pet door that is made for mobile homes? My mother has 2 med size dogs and needs a pet door for her mobile home. Is there one made just for mobile homes or will any of them fit? ♥iLoVeMyDoG♥ replied: "I dont see why normal ones wouldnt fit"
schwildcat1977 replied: "They are not made for any particular kind of house or moble home. They are made for different kinds of doors (ie: metal or wood). Any pet door made for the kind of door she has will be fine."
LISA Y replied: "i think that if your parents have sliding glass door, they make these pet doors that fit the height of the door and you just close and open the door for yourselves or keep it shut. the dog door stays in the track and when the slider is closed, the little dog flap is always accessible. they lock, too." How do you teach a cat to use a pet door? We have recently installed pet doors in our house. Our 10-year-old cat won't use them. She just sits there and meows. How can we teach her to use a pet door? R A replied: "I just gently lift them through it a few times, that usually does it."
Fed replied: "Try to push the flap up and down to show him it's an opening. Use cat treats too. Hold a treat on the other side of the cat door and he will probably come through to get the treat. Then go inside and do the same thing to show him it's an exit and entrance.
Hope that helps"
Kalila replied: "put food on the other side and hold it open for your cat"
celestial130 replied: "let him see u crawl thru it first, no kidding! try putting his favorite treat on the other side of the door and then just hold it open for him. do this a few times and then see if he tries it on his own. Stock up on treats!"
LAURIE replied: "My cat learned by watching the dog. To train the cat. put it through the pet door to someone waiting on the other side. Have them put the cat back through. Repeat this several times and then start coaching them through the door. He will eventually use it, hopefully."
suellenh replied: "When she sits there, push on the flap and show her the opening. Then when she will step through the opening and is familiar with it, begin to teach her to push the flap open with her head. It really won't take too long - and you'll love the convenience of the pet door."
punk_rawk_grrl replied: "Maybe she's saying "I don't want to go outside and die!"
" How do I get my cat to go through the pet door? We bought this nice pet door for our two cats, but they are afraid to go through it. I have held the pet door open so they can go through, but that’s not good. Any suggestions ? (The door is from the house to the garage where I want to put the litter box in.) Addicted2Caffeine replied: "keep showing them the door and push them thru it. My 3 cats use one"
Sikadakram replied: "Try putting their food dish/a treat in on the other side of the pet door, and maybe they will go through to get to it. Good luck!"
Toki replied: "Try using your boot other than that I don't for see being success full you may try putting a bowl of tuna in the garage and let them figure out the door wont hurt them"
checkersmeowmix replied: "I havn't done this but you can open the door hold onto the cat and show how to go through by gently pushing it through the door.then give it a treat and repeat this several times.Soon dont push just put them with thier paws really close to the flap.soon they will learn and do this with the door closed. It will take patience though.(=^.^=)"
Elizabeth M replied: "Try food. Maybe hold something that is a treat to them just out of their reach until they go through. Or you could just leave the litter box where they're used to it being, keep the pet door open some how, and give them time. Cats are very curious, if you can prop it open, they will probably go through it soon. Then try just barely proping it open, to where they can see it's open and nudge it open. Then maybe they'll put two and two together. You could always hold their food on the other side of the door and if they're hungry enough, they'll go through."
Mister Nice Guy replied: "With cats, you're better off trying to induce them to WANT to go through the door rather than forcing or pushing them.
Maybe you could try some Tuna."
animaluver627 replied: "put food on the other side"
mom of 2 replied: "Treats and patience. I have trained several cats to use our cat door by sitting on the opposite side of it from the cat, and rattling the treats container as I'm calling them. Eventually they get the idea, some are faster than others!
You first need to get them used to getting a treat for doing what you want, it is possible to train a cat but again you need to be patient and willing to take your time with them. Mine will usually come in from outdoors if I rattle the treats.
Another thing you can do with the cat door is to hold it open for him until he gets his head and maybe one foot out, and then gently let it go. He will push the rest of the way through and eventually figure it out for himself. Also, don't always hold it open for him, or open the big door for him, because then he won't try for himself. Let him figure it out for himself sometimes.
Good luck!"
cat lover replied: "They probably already know, but have no reason to go through. A garage is not a place where they can likely survey their domain. I have a pet door that goes into a sunroom, so they have an incentive to go through it. I held the flap open, and they learned fairly quickly. But they also show a determination to get me to open the sliding door rather than go through the pet door. My one cat will 'pretend' she doesn't know how to use it. But open a can of food, and she is right there at my feet, having come through the pet flap. I can hold the flap open, and she will not come through it. But if she wants, no problem.
My suggestion is to have some food or treats on the other side of the flap, so when you hold it open, there will be a reward for them to go through."
Cam replied: "Our cats did the same thing. It took a little time but once they realized food was on the other side they finally got it. This door is activated by a magnetic collar that they wear. Funny, now they go through their cat door even when the garage door is wide open!"
Deeper Torrent replied: "As most others have already said above, food is the best way to bribe any pet to do your bidding. It is called "conditioning"." Can I get a pet door for a sliding window? Where I live, All of the windows are the large side-sliding ones. The only pet doors I see for window are for the sash windows which slide up and down. I thought maybe I could get one for a doorwall but in a smaller size, but I don't see where they make them short enough for a window. Anyone know where I can buy a pet door for a side-sliding window about 42" tall? ♪ Seattle ♫ replied: "Hi there...consider ringing several of the pet door manufacturers and ask if they can recommend a product of their own or knows of another company who sells a pet door application which will fit into your sliding door.
Here's a list of all the pet door companies:" How Do I Install A Pet Door In A Paneled Door? I want to install a pet door onto a wood door in our home. Unfortunately, the front of the door is not flat; instead, it is covered with panels.
Do you think it would be possible to install a pet door into a paneled wood door? If so, how? Jeffrey J replied: "Yes it is possible (I have done it twice for customers). You may have to make filler pieces for the irregularities in the door, but very doable"
thatsxtra replied: "I did it and sealed around it with silicone. Works great and no leaks" How can I get my cat to use her pet door? We put her litter box in a closet and installed a pet door for her to access it. She seems to be freaked out by it and will not use it. Anyone know how to get her used to it? toasty23 replied: "i suggest removeing the flap or covering on the pet door so the cat will see what shes is being lead into and maybe she will use it more often"
Kaylee replied: "Well, you could just put cat nip or a little bit of food near the door or on the door and she will smell it and be like "yum." and then you can prop the door open and put the food on the inside of the closet. after a while, she wont be scared anymore."
sutra replied: "This may sound weird, but put a light on in the closet. They don't like going through a door into a space they can't see. I have an enclosed back porch with a pet door in it and I leave the light on all the time for my cats to see coming and going. And one of them was so reluctant that I had to teach her by pushing her bodily thru the door about 20 times before she got the hang of it. She would come back out-- but not go in! I have pretty much determined that cats are idiots -- big loveable idiots!"
justsueandthebabiesnow replied: "try taping the lid up for a few weeks so that cat can walk through it open, and hopefully you can then take it down and she will go through it ok..or sometimes you can hold the flap up your self and gently ease her through..sooner or later she will get used to it..or other possibility is get the magnetized one which will open as soon as she gets up to it..."
Mar replied: "It will have to take one day before you can get your cat be accustomed to your pet door. If you wish you can put the litter box inside the bathroom. This is a very good place to teach your cat. Lock the cat inside the bathroom for one day. Ofcourse you will have to place food and water to supplement the cat's needs. The following day release the cat out of the bathroom. You will noticed it had used the liiter box. Everytime it feels littering, it will automatically use the bathroom using its litter box passing through the access door. Its amazing and cats are really clean, I have one and taught it how to flush the toilet too." has anyone got a large Staywell aluminium pet door and are they any good? I bought a large pet door for my labrador but it was the plastic door which he broke. I bought another but that went the same way so now I have a hole! Martin G replied: "Now your house will get burgled !!!"
duffie_1999 replied: "He will bend the aluminum. The best door for you is one made for hunting dogs..the panel swings and it is made of thick plastic or tempered glass.
This is a GREAT door for big dogs...." Do they make a pet door for a sliding patio screen door? I have a Yorkie who always wants to go In and Out and In and Out. I don't want to install a regular pet door but I was wondering if they make one that can be installed right into my sliding patio screen door OR if they make a sliding patio screen door with a pet door already in it? (I want to keep my sliding GLASS door in tact for security reasons.) If you know one exists, can you tell me where I can get it? Craig at home replied: "Try Fosters and Smith. They should have one that's an add in panel." How do I fix a pet door that is too high? I bought a house with a pre-installed pet door and its too high for my pet by about 2 inches. How can I fix this for my pet without having to buy a whole new door or install a ramp (there is too much traffic through this door for a ramp)? Deblieux replied: "You can 1) install a larger pet door, 2) patch the existing hole and lower the pet door, 3) mount a "step" to the door, or 4)get a bigger pet." "Why is having a pet door for my pet to use important"? why is it healthy for pets to use a pet door?
why is it psychologically important for a pet to access the outdoors?
Why is it safe for a pet to use a pet door?
What are all or any other benefits for the pet to use a pet door?
Why is it beneficial for a pet owner to have a pet door? fluffy_aliens replied: "It's none of those things except possibly safe if your yard is safely enclosed and your pet is a dog.
Cats should be kept indoors. Indoor/outdoor cats have a life expectancy of 3 to 5 years. Indoor only cats have a life expectancy of 15 years.
Having a doggy door can actually work against you in the long run. Being able to run out that door any time they need to potty can help with potty training but doesn't teach them how to hold it. If you're ever in a situation (like Visiting great aunt Selma) where there is no doggy door then the potty training can go completely out the window because they simply don't know how to hold it or let you know they need to go. The only benefit is for the lazy owner who doesn't want to take 2 minutes to get up and let the dog out."
Lil*Miss*Erica-WI replied: "why is it healthy for pets to use a pet door? i dont think that it is, because in wisconsin with all of this snow and freezing temps your pet doro could freeze and be locked outside. your pet could get into alot of trouble or hurt outside and your not there to catch it and help it
why is it psychologically important for a pet to access the outdoors? i dont think that your pet should be outside alone, another dog could come in your yard and hurt your pet, i think your dog should be able to go outside when needed, but a doggie dog is not safe or important.
Why is it safe for a pet to use a pet door? Its not Safe, other things could come in unwanted that you and your pet do not want inside
What are all or any other benefits for the pet to use a pet door? There isnt many besides he must likely will not go potty in your house, their are many ways to teach him no to and you will both he happy without a doggie door
Why is it beneficial for a pet owner to have a pet door? NO! Its dangerous, other animals and things can come in just like your pet does. Your pet could get hurt outside because its not being supervised.
Pet Doors are not a good idea and i am totally againist them." |
